On the last day of a watercolor workshop a few months ago, we were asked to bring some reference materials to start a painting of our own, so we could practice some of the techniques we had been learning. I had some photographs from about five years ago when I took a backpacking trip with my dad and brothers to Kings Peak. On one of the days, we hiked over to this lake where it rained on and off. I thought this would be a good subject and did some value sketches based on one of the photos I had taken. I had time to do some of the first washes that day. Upon returning home, I decided that I would like to finish the painting, which I did several weeks later.
