About Me

SLC, UT, United States
A short explanation of my art: I enjoy working with a variety of media. I have the most experience with watercolor and have dabbled in oils, charcoal, and gouache. I am fascinated by what makes things work. I enjoy working out in my mind the way things relate to each other visually. People fascinate me, and I try to capture things about people that are interesting. I try to portray people in a way that communicates that they are alive, because I think that is what makes people special. Those who are discovering, learning, experiencing, and enjoying the fruits of following a dream inspire me.

Near Moab

Amidst painting walls and trim at home, I was also able to finish a painting a couple of weeks ago. I have been practicing skies in a number of ways this year. I thought this one turned out well. It suits the environment and composition, and I am really pleased with the way it turned out.

A lake near Kings Peak

I'm going to have to consult my brother on the name of this lake(EDIT: It's Henry's Fork Lake). On the last day of a watercolor workshop a few months ago, we were asked to bring some reference materials to start a painting of our own, so we could practice some of the techniques we had been learning. I had some photographs from about five years ago when I took a backpacking trip with my dad and brothers to Kings Peak. On one of the days, we hiked over to this lake where it rained on and off. I thought this would be a good subject and did some value sketches based on one of the photos I had taken. I had time to do some of the first washes that day. Upon returning home, I decided that I would like to finish the painting, which I did several weeks later.
